The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan has officially registered Samarkand flatbread as a geographical indication, according to a report from the department’s press service.
This designation aims to protect the exclusive rights of local entrepreneurs to use the name and to prevent counterfeit products from entering the market.
Justice Minister Akbar Tashkulov presented the registration document to Adiz Boboyev, the regional governor.
Previously, other items such as Kokand knives, Margilan atlas, Margilan adras, Zaamin tandirgush, and Gijduvan shashlik have also been registered as geographical indications.
