Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of Uzbekistan’s presidential administration, has emphasised that environmental damage cannot be justified by profit. She shared her remarks on her Telegram channel.
Mirziyoyeva recently visited a greenhouse in the Kibray district of Tashkent region that burned around 150kg of coal daily. She noted that the health impact on local residents far outweighs the economic benefits of such production.
The administration has instructed the Ecology Commission to install a purification filter at the greenhouse. In addition, the agency will hold training sessions for businesses and organise a fair to facilitate the purchase of environmental equipment.
Mirziyoyeva also took part in a meeting discussing air quality in Tashkent and the Fergana Valley. Plans are underway to establish a scientific laboratory to monitor and assess the atmosphere.
Officials from the special commission on air pollution stressed that these measures are not one-off actions and will continue even if air quality improves.
As of 12:40 (GMT+5), Tashkent ranks 17th (was 22nd in the morning) among cities with the dirtiest air globally, behind leaders such as Lahore, Dhaka, and Delhi.
