Uzbekistan to Launch Two-Year Pilot Scheme for E-commerce Bonded Warehouses
Uzbekistan is preparing to launch a pilot scheme for bonded warehouses that will run from July 1, 2026 until July 1, 2028. These specialised facilities will be used to temporarily store imported consumer goods intended for personal use before they are purchased through designated official online retail platforms.
A bonded warehouse functions as a secure storage site operating under continuous customs supervision. The primary advantage of this system is that it allows international merchandise to be held domestically without the immediate payment of full customs tariffs. The necessary duties and taxes are only processed when a specific item is finally sold to a consumer or permanently exported from the facility.
Under the new trial system the purchasing journey for online shoppers will become significantly faster. As soon as a customer places an order the requested goods will go through a highly simplified customs clearance procedure. Once the required paperwork is quickly finalised the items will be dispatched directly to the buyer according to standard customs regulations.
To further accelerate the flow of e-commerce goods the government has confirmed that several traditional border checks will be suspended for these specific items. To ensure swift processing during the two-year trial period the consumer products held within the bonded warehouses will be completely exempt from standard sanitary and veterinary inspections.
