The Centre of Islamic Civilisation in Tashkent has been officially included in the Guinness World Records, according to a statement from the cultural institution’s press service.

The compilers of the renowned reference book have formally recognised the facility as the largest museum of Islamic civilisation in the world. A certificate presentation ceremony took place on Monday April 13, attended by the centre’s staff and the builders who helped bring the project to life.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Seida Subasi praised the scale and execution of the ambitious project during the handover event.

«I am sincerely impressed by the level of work done and would like to express my gratitude to everyone who was involved in the implementation of this project. This is an outstanding achievement, the result of colossal efforts and high professionalism,» Subasi remarked.

Construction of the expansive centre first began in 2017 and officially concluded on March 17 this year. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was among the very first visitors to tour the completed complex.

The grand opening ceremony was also attended by prominent philanthropist Alisher Usmanov. The head of state specifically highlighted Usmanov’s crucial contributions, noting that he had provided the institution with «the necessary funds, ideas and unique historical exhibits».

The massive three-storey museum boasts an estimated total usable area of 42,000 square metres. It currently houses an impressive collection of more than 110 Quran manuscripts. This includes exceptionally rare copies dating back to the times of the Samanid, Timurid and other prominent historical dynasties.
