Samarkand Hosts International Forum on Combating Drug Trafficking

An international forum titled «Countering Transnational Drug Threats for the Health and Safety of Society» was held in Samarkand on April 20–21, bringing together global experts to strengthen cooperation against illicit drug trafficking.
The event was organised by the Agency for Control of Narcotics and Firearms in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Around 500 participants attended, including representatives from major international organisations such as the WHO, OSCE, SCO, CIS, and the World Customs Organization.
Focus on global cooperation
Participants discussed strategies to combat transnational drug networks, improve law enforcement coordination, and enhance prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation systems.
A delegation from Kazakhstan, led by Kuandyk Alzhanov of the Interior Ministry, also took part, reaffirming its commitment to closer regional cooperation in tackling drug-related crime.
Samarkand Declaration adopted
The forum concluded with the adoption of the Samarkand Declaration, outlining a unified approach among participating countries and organisations to counter global drug threats and protect public health.
Organisers said the event marked an important step in consolidating international efforts to address the growing challenges posed by illicit drug trafficking.
