The Bangladesh women’s national field hockey team recorded a historic 3–2 victory over Uzbekistan women’s national field hockey team in the Women’s Asian Games qualifying tournament in Jakarta.

First international victory

The win marks Bangladesh’s first-ever international success in just their second match. The team had opened the tournament with a 5–5 draw against Chinese Taipei before bouncing back with a strong performance.

Match highlights

Bangladesh took the lead in the 11th minute through Sharika Rimon. Kona Akter extended the advantage in the 24th minute, while Irene Akter Riya scored the decisive third goal in the 40th minute.

Uzbekistan responded with two goals and applied late pressure, but Bangladesh held on to secure the victory.

Group standings

With four points from two matches, Bangladesh now leads their group ahead of their final fixture against Hong Kong.

Irene Akter Riya was named Player of the Match for her standout performance.
