Shots were fired during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Sunday evening, prompting the evacuation of U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance from the venue.

The incident took place at the Washington Hilton, where the high-profile gathering of journalists, officials and celebrities was underway. According to early reports, security personnel swiftly removed the president and other senior officials after gunshots were heard inside the building.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen from California. Law enforcement officials said he was apprehended quickly and «didn’t get very far» after opening fire. No injuries to the president or vice president have been reported.

Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said the motive remains under investigation, though preliminary findings suggest the attacker may have been targeting administration figures, «likely» including the president.

Washington DC police described the suspect as acting alone. The president later referred to him as a «lone wolf» and said he would face severe legal consequences.

The situation is now under control, with federal and local agencies continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
