The newly released pirate survival game Windrose has pulled in $30 mln in gross revenue during its first ten days on the Steam platform, Vandal reports.

This financial windfall translates to an estimated $400,000 in net revenue for each employee at the 60-person studio behind the hit title, making it one of the most lucrative independent launches of the year.

Developed by the Uzbekistan-based independent studio Kraken Express the game has become an explosive commercial success. It surpassed 1.3 mln active players shortly after its early access launch on April 14.

Market research firm Alinea Analytics attributes these incredible earnings to the title’s high overall quality, a budget-friendly price point and a highly effective community marketing campaign.

These impressive financial returns make Windrose the most commercially successful survival genre debut since the global phenomenon Palworld. Analytics data indicates that the release is currently selling significantly faster than major industry competitors including StarRupture, Grounded 2 and Dune: Awakening. Peak activity metrics recorded 527,000 daily users on its opening Sunday while the game maintained a robust baseline of over 450,000 players throughout the week.

A detailed breakdown of the buyer demographic highlights why the game is generating revenue so rapidly. The majority of purchasers are veterans of established survival hits such as Valheim, ARK: Survival Evolved and The Forest.

Furthermore around 40% of the player base previously engaged with Sea of Thieves indicating a strong consumer appetite for pirate-themed base building and crafting over intense player-versus-player combat.

Kraken Express successfully monetised this niche by partnering with specialised content creators rather than relying on broad advertising. The studio also launched a six-hour demo during the February Steam Next Fest. This move alone secured 474,000 wishlists and drove 11.3% sales conversion rate during launch week to secure the $30 mln milestone.
