Prince William Sees Harry’s U.S. Lifestyle as “Non-Negotiable” Rift

Prince William is reportedly refusing to accept Prince Harry’s «half in, half out» lifestyle in the United States, with royal insiders describing the divide between the brothers as increasingly difficult to bridge.
According to former royal aide Ailsa Anderson, William views Harry’s attempt to combine royal status with independent commercial activity as «non-negotiable,» arguing that public duty cannot be mixed with private business interests. Allies of the Prince of Wales say he believes such an arrangement risks undermining the integrity of the monarchy.
Recent appearances by Harry have added to tensions. His remarks at a security forum in Kyiv, where he called for stronger American leadership, drew criticism for breaching the royal family’s tradition of political neutrality. Shortly afterwards, a joint tour of Australia with Meghan Markle reportedly blended charitable engagements with commercial ventures, further blurring the line between public service and personal branding.
The dispute dates back to the 2020 Sandringham Summit convened by Queen Elizabeth II, which rejected the Sussexes’ proposal for a hybrid royal role. Six years on, that core disagreement remains unresolved and continues to shape relations within the family.
While King Charles III is said to remain open to maintaining contact with his younger son, William — supported by Catherine, Princess of Wales — is understood to oppose any return of the Sussexes to official royal duties.
Observers say the ongoing rift highlights a broader contrast within the royal family, between William’s role as a future monarch committed to tradition and Harry’s evolving position outside the institution.
