Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is poised to become one of the most monumental launches in the history of the entertainment industry, according to Take-Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick.

Speaking in a recent interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick outlined the astronomical ambitions driving the highly anticipated sequel. He highlighted the immense pressure surrounding the project and acknowledged that expectations are extraordinarily high. Anything falling short of a colossal blockbuster, he noted, could leave investors deeply disappointed.

«Our goal is to give players an experience that hasn’t been seen before,» Zelnick stated.

A return to vice city

The forthcoming instalment will centre on a criminal duo navigating the sun-drenched streets of Vice City, Rockstar Games’ fictionalised interpretation of Miami. The title represents a massive investment of both time and capital for the studio.
Key details surrounding the project include:

  • Development Time: Over eight years in active production
  • Budget: Estimated to exceed hundreds of millions of dollars
  • Forecasted Debut: Analysts predict day-one sales could surpass 25 mln copies

The console-first strategy

Despite the growing market share of PC gaming, GTA 6 will initially launch exclusively on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. A PC version will follow at a later date, firmly adhering to Rockstar’s traditional release roadmap.

Zelnick explained that the company is currently prioritising its core console demographic for the initial rollout. He acknowledged this strategy comes despite the fact that PC sales now account for roughly 45 to 50% of revenue for major industry titles.

Take-Two executives are confident that this staggered, two-stage release model will ultimately maximise overall profits. By launching on consoles first and PC later, the publisher expects to generate a secondary wave of massive sales and encourage enthusiastic fans to purchase the game twice to experience it across multiple platforms.
