Uzbekistan’s Mariya Timofeeva has claimed her first WTA 125 title following a commanding performance at the tournament in Istanbul. In a decisive final, Timofeeva overcame Croatia’s Donna Vekiс with a 6-4, 6-2 victory, requiring just one hour and 32 minutes to secure the win.

This is the first time she has managed to defeat Vekiс in their professional head-to-head encounters.

The triumph in Turkey provided a boost to Timofeeva’s professional standing. The victory earned her 125 WTA ranking points and a winner’s cheque of $15,500. For her efforts as the runner-up, Vekiс received 81 ranking points and $8,400 in prize money.

The success comes at a pivotal time for Timofeeva, who currently holds the 93rd position in the world rankings. Over the course of her career, she has amassed 216 victories against 132 defeats.

Timofeeva’s rise as a representative of Uzbekistan is a relatively recent development. Although she previously competed for Russia, the athlete made the formal decision to change her sporting citizenship in October 2025 at the age of 21.

This maiden WTA 125 title suggests the transition is paying off, establishing her as a formidable force for Uzbek tennis on the international circuit.
