Uzbekistan Allocates 450 Bn Soums for Regional Tourism infrastructure
Uzbekistan will allocate an additional 450 bn soums ($35 mln) to develop tourism infrastructure in the country’s regions, officials announced during a press conference on tourism sector reforms.
According to Tourism Committee Chairman Abdulaziz Akkulov, the government plans to create 24,000 new jobs in tourism and related industries, while another 16,000 jobs are expected to be brought out of the shadow economy.
Authorities also plan to introduce a new management system for the sector based on the chain «tourist destination — project — infrastructure — entrepreneur — promotion — tourist» to improve coordination and efficiency.
As part of the initiative, Uzbekistan will develop master plans for 34 major tourism sites and modernize another 31 destinations. A separate office for tourism infrastructure development will be established under the Tourism Committee to oversee the projects.
One of the pilot projects highlighted by officials is the «Kipchak Fishing Village» tourism complex in the Amudarya district of Karakalpakstan.
The reforms are part of Uzbekistan’s broader efforts to expand tourism, attract foreign visitors and strengthen regional economic development.
