At least eight people have died and 25 others have been injured following a devastating collision involving a train and a public bus in Bangkok this Saturday, Reuters reports.

The catastrophic crash triggered a massive fire that rapidly engulfed the bus and spread to surrounding traffic. According to local police and rescue officials the multi-vehicle pile-up involved the train, the passenger bus, several cars and motorcycles.

Firefighters and emergency rescue crews were immediately dispatched to the scene to tackle the blaze and pull injured victims from the twisted wreckage. Responders battled the intense flames with high-pressure water hoses in a desperate race to prevent the fire from spreading further across the congested road.

Authorities have confirmed that the fire is now fully under control. Emergency crews remain on site to cool the scorched area, safely vent any lingering gas and continue their rigorous search for remaining victims who may be trapped in the debris.

The exact cause of the fatal crash remains under active investigation by local authorities.

While the circumstances of this specific incident are still being determined, ground-level railway crossings in the Thai capital are notoriously hazardous. Bangkok’s rail infrastructure frequently intersects with heavily congested urban roads and safety at these level crossings has long been a significant concern for both daily commuters and transport officials. Accidents involving trains and road vehicles in the region often prompt renewed debates regarding the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades and stricter traffic enforcement at railway junctions.
