Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov concluded his latest match at the ongoing chess tournament in Romania with a hard-fought draw against the formidable American player Fabiano Caruana.

This follows another stalemate for the Uzbekistan representative against France’s Alireza Firouzja. In a highly unusual turn of events, that particular game had to be played inside a hotel room because the French grandmaster had suffered an ankle injury.

As of May 21, Sindarov occupies the eighth position in the overall tournament standings. Germany’s Vincent Keymer currently leads the pack. He is closely followed by Jorden van Foreest of the Netherlands in second place and Indian prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa who rounds out the top three.

Looking ahead, Sindarov is already preparing to represent his country at the highly anticipated World Team Rapid and Blitz Championships scheduled to take place in Hong Kong this June. The formidable Uzbekistan squad will feature Sindarov alongside Nodirbek Abdusattorov, former FIDE world champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov and other top national talents.

The event in Hong Kong will host more than 40 teams competing for a lucrative €500,000 total prize fund. This impressive financial pool is split across the two time controls, with €310,000 dedicated to the rapid matches and the remaining €190,000 allocated for the fiercely competitive blitz portion of the tournament.
