Historic 29-Point Comeback Puts Knicks One Win Away From NBA Title

A star-studded crowd at Madison Square Garden witnessed the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history on Wednesday evening as the New York Knicks overcame a staggering 29-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106.

The dramatic victory gives New York a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. The franchise is now just one win away from securing its first national championship since 1973.

Last-second heroics

The feverish Game 4 clash was decided in the final moments. With a mere 1.2 seconds remaining on the clock, OG Anunoby sank a decisive three-pointer that flipped the game on its head. The Madison Square Garden crowd immediately erupted into deafening chants of «O-G! O-G!» in tribute to the match-winner.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown was left in awe by the dramatic conclusion.

«That has to be the most iconic shot in the history of New York basketball,» Brown told reporters. «It was just unbelievable.»

A-list celebrations

The monumental victory played out in front of a high-profile audience that included actor Timothee Chalamet, filmmaker Spike Lee and pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Sporting a «Stevie Knicks» t-shirt, a clever nod to both the basketball team and the iconic Fleetwood Mac frontwoman, Swift was seen jumping for joy at the final buzzer. The singer even stopped to be twirled by one of the Knicks City Dancers as she exited the court.

Local politicians shared in the disbelief with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani taking to X to simply post «SPEECHLESS» in all caps.

Electric city atmosphere

The current playoff run represents a stunning reversal of fortune for a team that has not hosted a finals series since 1999. In a poetic twist of fate, the Knicks lost that 1999 championship to the very same San Antonio Spurs they are currently battling.

The sheer scale of the occasion has left New York completely transfixed. The city has been heavily decorated in Knicks colours, spanning from the illuminated spire of the Empire State Building to the marble lions guarding the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue.

Fans have flooded the streets to celebrate each successive victory. «The city is electric,» one 31-year-old resident told the BBC. «I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like this before because in 1999 I was four years old. I’m just trying to soak it all in.»

The Knicks will have their first opportunity to clinch the series and lift the trophy this Saturday night when the two teams travel to Texas for Game 5. However, while the Spurs now face an uphill battle as significant underdogs, they remain mathematically capable of claiming the championship if they manage to win the next three consecutive fixtures.
