Thousands Protest in Albania Against Jared Kushner’s Luxury Resort Project

Thousands of people took to the streets of Tirana on Wednesday in the largest demonstration so far against a luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump. Protesters voiced concerns about the environmental impact of the planned development and demanded greater transparency from the Albanian government.
The proposed resort would be built on Sazan Island and along parts of Albania’s southern coastline. Backers of the project say it could boost tourism and attract billions of dollars in investment, while critics argue it threatens sensitive ecosystems and protected habitats.
Environmental groups have warned that the development could affect biodiversity in coastal areas that are home to flamingos, sea turtles and other wildlife. Protesters have adopted pink flamingos as a symbol of the campaign, which has become known locally as the «Flamingo Revolution.»
Despite growing opposition, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has pledged to move forward with the project, arguing that it will create jobs and support economic growth. Government officials insist that environmental reviews are ongoing and that the development will comply with national and European regulations.
The protests have drawn international attention and intensified scrutiny of one of the most controversial tourism projects currently planned in the Balkans.
