The global music scene has been dealt a shocking blow with the sudden passing of Brytavious Chambers, the powerhouse hip-hop producer widely recognised as Tay Keith. He was 29.

Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed that the artist was discovered unresponsive inside his Martin Street flat on Thursday afternoon. Officers had initially arrived at the residence to conduct a standard welfare check. While medical examiners are yet to pinpoint an exact cause of death, authorities have explicitly stated that no foul play is suspected.

Right up until his untimely passing, Chambers remained fiercely dedicated to his craft. Merely days before he died, his final Instagram update proudly showcased his production on «Call Your Name», a fresh release from Chris Brown featuring Sexyy Red and GloRilla.

From South Memphis to global stardom

Born in South Memphis and raised across East Memphis and Orange Mound, Chambers built a legacy defined by raw talent and an unmatched work ethic. His rise to fame is a rare and inspiring tale of balancing global superstardom with strict academic commitments.

While crafting the beat for Travis Scott’s massive anthem «Sicko Mode», a track that earned him his first Grammy nomination at the age of 23, Chambers was actively navigating life as a university student.

Rather than abandoning his education for the allure of the music industry, he powered through to earn degrees in integrated studies and media management from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in December 2018.

Tay Keith once shared a remarkable anecdote with his alma mater that perfectly captured his drive. After wrapping up a studio session in New York, he flew back to Tennessee on the morning of a major exam and went directly from the airport to the lecture hall.

«If I knew that I could do that, then there wasn’t anything stopping me but myself,» he told the university.

Building an empire

Chambers kept his roots close as his career exploded. He built his inner professional circle with trusted peers from MTSU, bringing fellow alumni Tyland Jackson and Nicholas Brownlow on board as his stylist and public relations director respectively.

His relentless drive translated into a star-studded catalogue. Over his tragically short career, he crafted hits for a staggering roster of A-listers including Cardi B, Eminem and Beyoncé.

The industry heavily rewarded his undeniable talent:

  • 2024: Crowned Producer of the Year at the prestigious BMI Awards.
  • 2025: Named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Music list alongside Cambrian Strong, recognising their joint success in running the Drumatized record label.

The loss of Tay Keith leaves a massive void in modern music production, cutting short the life of a young visionary who refused to let anything stop his momentum.
