President Mirziyoyev Shares World Cup Excitement Ahead of Portugal Match

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has shared his pre-match nerves ahead of the national football team’s crucial World Cup fixture against Portugal tonight.
Speaking candidly to journalists, the head of state revealed that the magnitude of the tournament is keeping him awake.
«I don’t know if you are sleeping or not. Personally, I have no time for sleep today, I am worried, thinking about the upcoming game,» he confessed.
However, Mirziyoyev emphasised that simply participating in the tournament is a historic achievement for the nation.
«But we have already won our first victory: the flag of Uzbekistan is flying at the World Cup and this means that we stand worthy in the same row with the world community.»
The president made these remarks during a working visit to Namangan. He was in the region to attend the official ground-breaking ceremony for a brand-new IT park located in the Davlatabad district. The major technological project is being developed alongside Chinese investors. Authorities have already outlined plans to establish similar technological hubs in other cities across the republic.
The highly anticipated World Cup group stage encounter between Uzbekistan and Portugal is scheduled to kick off today at 22:00 Tashkent time.
