The total number of registered motor vehicles owned by citizens in Uzbekistan breached the 4.9 mln mark as of April 1, 2026. Data published by the State Statistics Agency reveals that the national fleet grew by 344,600 units over the preceding 12 months.

Passenger cars continue to dominate personal transport across the republic, accounting for 4.5 mln units and making up 92.8% of the country’s total registered transport network. The remaining portion of the national registry consists of commercial, public transport and industrial assets. This includes 330,300 commercial trucks, 7,500 minibuses, 7,200 pieces of specialist machinery and 5,800 buses currently operating nationwide.

While the cumulative number of vehicles on the road is rising, immediate commercial activity showed signs of a mild contraction. During April of this year, total sales across all automotive segments reached 88,200 units, representing a minor 1.9% dip compared to the same period in 2025.

A closer look at the data indicates that both factory-new and pre-owned sectors faced a temporary cooling period. The new vehicle market recorded 24,900 transactions, translating to a 3.6% year-on-year decrease, while the second-hand market logged 43,700 transactions, marking a more pronounced 15% drop in annual terms.

Capital and key regions defy the trend

Despite the slight national downturn in monthly sales, specific economic hubs across Uzbekistan enjoyed healthy commercial growth. According to analysts at the Centre for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR), consumer demand remained highly resilient in major urban areas.

The capital city of Tashkent recorded the strongest performance with an 11.8% annual surge in vehicle acquisitions. Robust trading was also evident in the Fergana and Samarkand provinces, which saw sales figures climb by 11% and 0.9% respectively over the course of the year.
