Uzbekistan is preparing to reduce or entirely abolish customs duties on a wide range of American industrial and agricultural goods. The trade shift was announced following a recent official visit to Tashkent by U.S. Ambassador Jamieson Greer.

In response to the proposed tariff reductions Washington is prepared to evaluate more favourable market conditions for goods exported from Uzbekistan. Both nations intend to fast-track their negotiations to finalise a new mutual trade and investment agreement. Officials anticipate that these collaborative measures will significantly strengthen economic ties and boost the overall volume of bilateral trade.

The expanding partnership extends beyond basic import and export agreements. Tashkent and Washington have committed to deepening their active cooperation across several crucial economic sectors including energy, mining, finance and information technology.

Support for WTO accession

During the high-level talks the United States reaffirmed its continued support for Uzbekistan’s bid to join the World Trade Organization. American representatives praised the Central Asian republic for the tangible progress it has made toward meeting global trade standards and integrating with international markets.

The official signing and implementation of these new bilateral agreements are expected to take place in the coming weeks. This latest diplomatic milestone serves as a direct continuation of the high-profile 2025 negotiations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

That historic meeting previously resulted in $32 bn worth of commercial deals including a massive $8.5 bn contract with aviation manufacturer Boeing.
