Man Convicted in UK’s “Potato Murder” Found Dead During Livestream
A British man who was previously jailed for killing his neighbour by blocking her gas flue with a potato has been found dead in his flat after police were alerted by viewers watching one of his livestreams.
Daniel James Long, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, was discovered dead at his home in St Austell, Cornwall, after officers responded to concerns raised during the online broadcast. Emergency services confirmed his death at the scene, with no suspicious circumstances reported.
Long was convicted in 2015 of the manslaughter of his neighbour, Joanna Michael, after deliberately blocking the flue of her boiler with a potato. The obstruction caused carbon monoxide to build up inside her flat, resulting in her death. He was sentenced to prison before later being released under supervision.
According to local media, police were contacted after viewers became concerned during Long’s livestream and reported that he appeared unresponsive. Officers forced entry into the property, where they found him deceased. Authorities have said the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
