England supporters have come under fire for the growing trend of throwing pints into the air whenever the Three Lions score at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with critics arguing the celebrations are spoiling the atmosphere for other fans.

The practice, common in pubs, fan zones and stadium concourses, has become one of the most recognisable traditions among England supporters. While many fans see it as a joyful expression of celebration, others say it leaves spectators soaked in beer, creates slippery surfaces and results in unnecessary waste.

The debate intensified after England’s dramatic comeback victory over DR Congo in the Round of 32, when videos shared across social media showed thousands of supporters launching drinks into the air after each goal. Similar scenes were also seen during England’s group-stage win over Croatia.

Some supporters have defended the tradition as part of English football culture, arguing that spontaneous celebrations are a key part of the matchday experience. Others have called for greater respect for fellow fans, pointing out that many families and international visitors are caught in the beer showers without warning.

With England now preparing to face Mexico in the World Cup Round of 16, the debate over pint-throwing is likely to continue as thousands more supporters travel to back the Three Lions.
