Foreign Delegations Arrive in Tehran as Khamenei Funeral Ceremonies Begin
Official delegations from several countries have arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral ceremonies for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as Iran begins a week of national mourning and commemorative events.
According to Iranian media, representatives from countries including Iraq, Tajikistan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Oman are among those taking part in the ceremonies. Reports indicate that officials from around 30 to 40 countries are expected to attend over the coming days, although Western nations are largely absent.
Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli airstrike in February, an event that intensified regional tensions. His body is lying in state in Tehran before funeral processions continue through several cities, including Qom and Mashhad, where he is expected to be buried.
Iranian authorities have tightened security across the capital as millions of mourners are expected to participate in the ceremonies, which are also being presented as a demonstration of national unity and resilience.
