McDonald’s Quietly Updates McCrispy Strips Recipe After Customer Complaints

McDonald’s is rolling out a revised recipe for its McCrispy Strips across the country following widespread customer feedback that the chicken tenders lacked adequate crunch.
The fast-food chain quietly updated the breading to create a crispier exterior texture. This culinary change addresses direct criticism from diners who found the previous iteration disappointing when compared to the brand’s historically popular and now-discontinued Chicken Selects.
When McDonald’s reintroduced its highly anticipated Snack Wrap last year after a nearly decade-long hiatus, executives replaced the original Chicken Selects with the newly developed McCrispy Strips.
While fast-food fans celebrated the wrap’s triumphant return to the national menu, many quickly took to social media platforms to express their disappointment with the chicken itself. Numerous diners branded the softer tenders as «objectively bad», lacklustre and insufficiently crispy for a premium fast-food item.
Addressing online rumours and customer feedback
Speculation regarding a potential recipe revamp began circulating across online forums several weeks ago. A recently deleted post on Reddit initially claimed the updated strips would closely resemble the beloved Chicken Selects. Shortly after, prominent food bloggers observed that the revised menu items began quietly appearing in select restaurant locations during the week of July 6.
While McDonald’s has not yet issued a formal press release regarding the culinary update, the new product offers a noticeably crispier bite, improved texture and familiar peppery taste. The underlying black pepper seasoning remains unchanged but the refined breading provides a significantly elevated crunch. This structural adjustment effectively bridges the texture gap between the initial McCrispy Strips launch and the classic Chicken Selects profile that customers missed.
Diners can currently order the revamped McCrispy Strips as standalone meals in three-piece and four-piece portions or tucked inside a traditional Snack Wrap. The menu modification is already visible through updated promotional imagery on the McDonald’s mobile application and digital drive-thru boards nationwide. Customers can also verify the recipe change with local restaurant staff prior to placing an order to ensure their location has transitioned to the new chicken supply.
