Trump, Rubio Won’t Block Tates’ Extradition to UK
US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will not stop the extradition of the Tate brothers to the UK. Earlier, a federal court in Miami began the process to transfer them to UK authorities.
Court documents show the Justice Department stated that Rubio alone can stop Andrew and Tristan Tate’s extradition to the UK if there is political motivation. The Tates’ lawyers, who are challenging the extradition, said, «there’s no question about it.»
«The secretary [of state] has not spoken to the Tate Brothers or their lawyers. The State Department has no plans to act on this matter at this time,» a senior State Department official told Axios on Wednesday.
«Marco thinks these guys are scum,» said another source told the outlet. «Now if the president overrules him, which I don’t think is likely, he’s got a problem.» A source familiar with Trump’s thinking said the president wants nothing to do with the brothers.
The brothers claimed to have connections to two of Trump’s sons and have had the backing of Trump advisers. However, the US president is unlikely to intervene in the extradition process. The US will comply with an extradition treaty with the UK, according to Axios.
US law enforcement arrested the brothers last Saturday after British authorities filed 38 new charges, including rape and profiting from prostitution. This brings the total number of charges against them to 59. The Tates also face separate human trafficking charges in Romania.
Dual British-American nationals, the brothers have resided in the US since 2025. The controversial pair stirred backlash on social media after they travelled to Uzbekistan in April this year for what they described as «very important» business.
