Early audiences of «Spider-Man: Brand New Day» have confirmed that the 2024 track «Monopoly» by Russian singer Monetochka features in the superhero film.
Film critic Tamara Khodova announced the inclusion on Telegram after spotting the artist’s name in the end credits. Fans of the Marvel franchise quickly corroborated the news by sharing photographs of the credit sequence across social media platforms.
Khodova noted her amusement at the brief musical cameo. «Spoiler of the day: Monetochka’s song plays in the new Spider-Man,» she wrote to her subscribers. «I hope they paid her a lot of money for those three seconds of fame.»
The film’s director Destin Daniel Cretton personally confirmed his appreciation for the track. After Khodova and her colleagues emailed the filmmaker to share the excitement of Russian-speaking audiences, Cretton responded to say he loves the song and is delighted by the positive public reaction.
The footage of the scene emerged online two days before the global movie release.
The track plays when Peter Parker arrives at the New Avengers headquarters in Brighton Beach. There, he meets Yelena Belova, a character played by Florence Pugh.
Russian distribution restrictions
Despite the Russian-language addition to the soundtrack, «Spider-Man: Brand New Day» will not see an official theatrical release in Russia. Sony Pictures halted all domestic film distribution in 2022 and the studio’s boycott remains in effect.
The global premiere for the Tom Holland-led sequel is scheduled for July 31.
Monetochka, whose real name is Elizaveta Gyrdymova, currently resides outside of Russia after being designated a foreign agent by the Russian Justice Ministry. Her song «Monopoly» serves as a satirical take on wealth corruption and cutthroat business tactics disguised as a friendly board game.
The lyrics depict a chaotic scene where a casual tabletop game descends into extortion, racketeering and offshore fraud. Gyrdymova sings about being generous with expenses while wearing Louis Vuitton and hoarding cash to ensure her competitors are left with nothing. The track’s narrator brags about taking bribes under the table and repeating her success in lavish mirrors before a trusted friend betrays her.
The narrative eventually spirals into a dark conclusion involving a knife, flashing police lights and an unlucky roll of the dice that ends in a jail sentence. Released earlier in 2024, the pop track contrasts its upbeat production with deeply cynical themes about modern greed. Its unexpected inclusion in a major Hollywood blockbuster marks a significant international milestone for the exiled Russian artist.
