Tom Holland’s fourth solo adventure as the Marvel web-slinger secured the second-largest worldwide opening in cinema history. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, «Spider-Man: Brand New Day» generated $927mn globally during its debut. This total places the feature directly behind the $1.22bn all-time benchmark established by «Avengers: Endgame» in 2019.
The Sony Pictures co-production drew the majority of its revenue from international markets. The sequel pulled in $572mn across 66 overseas territories, compared to a $355mn North American opening. Playing across approximately 90,000 screens globally, the film doubled its original worldwide projection of $425mn.
China led the foreign box office with a $121mn start. The United Kingdom contributed $49mn, while Mexico and South Korea generated $38.3mn and $25.3mn respectively. The release set all-time debut records in France, Brazil and Spain. It also claimed the highest opening day for a non-Indian film in India’s history, overtaking the previous record set by «Avengers: Endgame».
A billion-dollar global weekend
«Spider-Man: Brand New Day» achieved these figures without traditional premium large-format screens. Christopher Nolan’s «The Odyssey», which also stars Holland, held exclusive rights to the entire IMAX network during its third weekend in cinemas. Consequently, «Brand New Day» generated its premium revenue through alternative exhibition formats, taking $17mn in 4DX theatres globally and $14.4mn in ScreenX.
Together, the two films created the highest-grossing worldwide weekend in exhibition history. While «Spider-Man» delivered $927mn globally, «The Odyssey» added $51mn from North American venues alongside its own international ticket sales. The combined grosses of both films pushed the overall worldwide box office past the $1bn threshold for a single three-day period, surpassing the previous global marketplace peak recorded during the 2019 «Endgame» opening.
The superhero feature is currently tracking to overtake Pixar’s «Toy Story 5» as the highest-grossing release of 2026. Industry analysts predict the film will surpass the $2bn global benchmark before ending its theatrical run.
