Leaked images have offered the clearest look yet at Lenovo’s first devices built for Google’s upcoming Googlebook platform, including a traditional laptop and a detachable 2-in-1 that could become among the first products in a new generation of AI-first computers.

The renders, published by multiple outlets, suggest Lenovo is preparing at least three Googlebook devices ahead of the platform’s expected launch later this year. Google unveiled Googlebook in May as a premium laptop category built around Gemini artificial intelligence, combining elements of Android and ChromeOS while placing AI features at the centre of the user experience.

The leaked hardware largely follows Lenovo’s existing design language, though several details distinguish the new models from current Chromebooks.

The larger Googlebook 15 features a silver finish, slim display bezels and a webcam with a physical privacy shutter. It also includes a hinge that folds back to nearly 158 degrees, allowing the screen to lie almost flat for easier content sharing. Dolby Atmos-branded speakers flank the keyboard, while connectivity appears to include USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, a headphone jack and a microSD card slot.

New keyboard hints at Gemini integration

One of the most noticeable changes appears on the keyboard.

Instead of a traditional layout, the leaked images show a dedicated «G» key, widely expected to launch Google’s Gemini assistant. The keyboard also replaces the Caps Lock key with a Quick Insert shortcut first introduced on Chromebooks, alongside dedicated buttons for screenshots, microphone controls, keyboard backlighting and accessibility functions.

The design also incorporates Google’s signature illuminated «Glow» styling, previously teased in official Googlebook promotional material. On the laptop, the lighting sits beneath the display, while the detachable tablet version integrates a horizontal light bar into the rear camera housing, echoing the design language of Google’s Pixel smartphones.

Detachable model targets flexible computing

Alongside the standard notebook, Lenovo is reportedly preparing a detachable Googlebook featuring a built-in kickstand, removable keyboard cover and stylus support. The device can function as either a laptop or a tablet, reflecting Google’s ambition to blur the line between Android tablets and traditional notebooks.

Google has positioned Googlebooks above Chromebooks rather than as direct replacements. While Chromebooks will continue to target education and budget-conscious buyers, Googlebooks are intended to offer premium materials, stronger performance and AI-driven features including the Magic Pointer interface and deeper integration with Android devices.

Lenovo is expected to be joined by Acer, Asus, Dell and HP in the first wave of Googlebook launches, although specifications, pricing and release dates for individual models remain unconfirmed. More details are expected as Google prepares for the platform’s autumn debut.
