Nothing OS 5 will start rolling out to supported phones on 25 August, moving its major update schedule forward by almost three months. The move places the British challenger among the first users of Android 17, although owners still lack a confirmed list of eligible devices.
Nothing has uploaded a 25 August teaser on social media, promising «more joy, every day» without revealing the update’s features or rollout order. The company did not begin the stable release of its Android 16-based operating system until November 2025.
Releasing Nothing OS 5 in August would bring its annual software cycle forward by almost 90 days. Android 17 remains available on a relatively small collection of phones, including Google’s Pixel devices, Samsung’s latest foldables and one Motorola model, according to Android Authority.
More joy, every day.

The UK-based company trails far behind Samsung or Google in terms of phone sales, but delivering a major Android version early gives it a way to compete beyond hardware specifications and its distinctive transparent designs.
Older Nothing phones face uncertain cut-off
OS 5 was already said to be taking shape alongside Android 17 in its official software roadmap. What remains unknown is how much of Google’s underlying update the company will retain and which new features it will build around its own interface, widgets and Glyph controls.
Droid-Life expects support to extend back to the Phone (2a) Plus and CMF Phone 2 Pro, with newer devices also receiving the update; Nothing has yet to confirm that list.

The older Phone (2) has arrived with Android 13 and was promised three Android upgrades, theoretically making Android 16 its final guaranteed version, according to Android Authority’s update record.
The rollout is also unlikely to reach every eligible phone at once. Nothing OS 4 started with the Phone (3) before expanding across the company’s range over several weeks.
