Alpine retains Franco Colapinto to complete 2027 F1 driver line-up
The Alpine Formula 1 team has finalised its 2027 driver roster by retaining Franco Colapinto for a second full-time campaign. The Argentinian driver will continue his partnership with Pierre Gasly.
Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore initially delayed the decision in May, waiting to see if a top-tier driver such as Max Verstappen might become available. Following Verstappen’s recent contract extension with Red Bull ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, the Enstone-based squad moved rapidly to secure Colapinto’s seat for a second full-time campaign.
«I am very pleased to remain with this team in 2027,» Colapinto said regarding the extension. «I feel very happy and very settled here and it’s been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last.»
Championship performance
The new deal follows a strong run of performances from the Argentinian driver, who currently sits 12th in the drivers’ standings with 19 points. He has secured six top-10 finishes this year, highlighted by a seventh-place result in Miami and a career-best sixth in Canada.
His consistent point-scoring has been crucial for Alpine as they battle Racing Bulls for fifth place in the constructors’ championship.
«Our long-term goals are obvious – to compete and win – and I am grateful to the team, Flavio and Steve, for the trust placed in me to be one of its drivers going into the future,» Franco Colapinto added.
With an unchanged line-up for next season, the team hopes roster stability will help consolidate their recent operational and technical progress on the grid.
