Xiaomi reveals ceramic 18 Fold special edition before China launch
Xiaomi has showcased a ceramic special edition of its upcoming 18 Fold smartphone shortly before its official debut in China. The soft pink ceramic finish ensures each handset is unique while maintaining the same physical dimensions and layout as the standard model.
In addition to the premium ceramic version, the 18 Fold will be available in black, Warm Gold White and Xiye Red. The company describes the device’s design as a «medium fold», placing its size directly between traditional large book-style foldables and compact flip phones.
Xiaomi has scheduled the formal unveiling for its autumn flagship product event at 7 p.m. local time on September 7 in China.
Advanced internal specifications and displays
Ahead of the event, Xiaomi disclosed several key hardware specifications. The foldable features a 5.38-inch external display alongside a 7.58-inch internal screen, with both panels utilising an approximate square root of 2:1 aspect ratio. Dual-layer ultra-thin glass protects the primary folding mechanism and internal screen.
The device will introduce Xiaomi’s proprietary XRING O3 AI flagship processor to the market. According to the manufacturer, this new silicon achieved an AnTuTu benchmark score exceeding 5.22 million points. The highest specification model will also feature next-generation LPDDR6 memory capable of delivering bandwidth up to 113.8 GB/s.
The 18 Fold integrates a Leica-branded triple-camera array, headlined by a 200-megapixel primary sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches. A 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens provides 3.5x optical zoom, while a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera completes the setup.
The camera software includes bespoke shooting modes tailored to the folding form factor, offering an expanded 4:3 viewfinder when folded and an external display preview when open.
Premium materials and battery capacity
Powering the device is a 6,000mAh Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery boasting an energy density of 920Wh/L. It supports 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging capabilities.
Structural durability enhancements include a redesigned Dragon Bone hinge and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0. The chassis relies on a high-strength 7000-series aluminium frame designed to survive drops from up to 1.2 metres.
The handset will launch with the new HyperOS 4 operating system. It is positioned to become the most expensive smartphone in the company’s lineup. Xiaomi President Lu Weibing previously indicated the starting price will surpass 10,000 yuan ($1,500), with exact pricing tiers expected during the launch broadcast.
