Apple’s hyped iPhone Ultra is actually foldable Duo — report
For months, industry speculation suggested Apple was preparing to unveil its ultimate premium smartphone under the «Ultra» moniker. However, leaks ahead of the 9 September reveal that the tech giant’s highly anticipated flagship isn’t Ultra at all – it is the $2,000 foldable iPhone Duo, Bloomberg reports.
This hardware presentation marks the company’s first major launch under new CEO John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook earlier this month. The iPhone Duo serves as Apple’s inaugural entry into the foldable market. Expected to retail for a staggering base price, the handset operates as both a phone and a tablet.
It features a 5.5-inch exterior cover display that opens into a 7.8-inch primary OLED screen. Top-tier storage configurations, premium accessories and extended warranties could push the final cost closer to $3,000 when the product hits shelves in early October.
To maintain a sleek profile, engineers made several notable design compromises. The ultra-thin chassis lacks the depth required for a standard TrueDepth camera system, meaning the iPhone Duo drops Face ID in favour of a side-mounted Touch ID button.
The device also omits a telephoto lens on the rear camera array. However, the foldable flagship boasts Apple Pencil support, dual internal batteries and multitasking capabilities powered by a next-generation 2nm A20 Pro chip.
Smartwatches introduce AI recording
Beyond the flagship smartphone, the presentation will showcase the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. These upcoming wearables feature a new T8320 processor designed to support advanced on-device artificial intelligence. According to Bloomberg, a standout addition is a tool named Recaps.
This privacy-focused AI feature analyses a user’s day by silently recording overheard conversations. The system processes audio locally, discards the raw files and generates a searchable summary of daily interactions without storing transcripts.
Apple also aims to challenge dedicated fitness trackers by introducing a continuous heart-rate monitoring sensor. This hardware upgrade ties into a new Readiness app designed to evaluate overnight recovery, analyse sleep stages and determine if users are in peak condition for physical training. The Series 12 line may also see the return of high-end ceramic case finishes for the first time in several years.
