iPhone 20 leak revives Apple’s almost-all-glass dream

Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone 20 may be edging closer to the «single slab of glass» design long associated with former company designer Jony Ive’s vision. A new display leak suggests Apple is testing a nearly 7-inch Pro Max with curved glass and almost invisible borders.
The latest claim points to a 6.96-inch Pro Max and a 6.41-inch Pro, both using glass that curves around all four sides. The trick seems less about physically wrapping the OLED around the phone and more about using optical refraction in the cover glass to make the bezels appear to disappear.
The real visual change would be to reduce the visible frame around it. Apple could make the phone look substantially bigger without making it much wider in your hand by using curved cover glass and optical tricks to make the edges disappear.
Nearly 7 inches, but not much bigger
The leaked Pro Max panel is said to measure 6.96 inches, only slightly larger than today’s 6.9-inch class displays.
The same leak also references testing a small Smart Island, suggesting that Apple may not completely remove the front cutout in the first iteration. This is consistent with earlier reports that Apple is aiming for under-display Face ID and camera technology but may still require a smaller punch-hole or Dynamic Island if the technology isn’t ready.

That might also explain why the company is reportedly testing a smaller front cutout, rather than promising a completely uninterrupted display. Under-display Face ID has been a long-running part of the anniversary-iPhone story, but ditching all visible sensors is still one of the harder engineering problems.
Was it cancelled, delayed or misunderstood?
- On 10 August, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee said Apple had scrapped its all-glass anniversary iPhone because manufacturing yields were too low.
- Later that day, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the broader redesign was still alive. His version is more restrained: glass on the front and back would curve into the sides around a thin metal band. An even more ambitious design using substantially more glass had been abandoned earlier in development.
- Writing on the heels of Gurman’s piece, Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station said displays consistent with that curved-glass design had appeared in Apple’s supply chain.
