Samsung counts Galaxy S27 to be a hit, plans 48mn screens

Samsung Electronics has commenced mass production of components for its upcoming Galaxy S27 smartphone series, expanding its flagship lineup to four distinct devices for the first time.
The forthcoming generation introduces a new «Pro» variant to sit alongside the established standard, Plus and Ultra models. According to supply chain sources, the device screen sizes will measure 6.27 inches for the basic model, 6.47 inches for the Pro, 6.66 inches for the Plus and 6.89 inches for the premium Ultra edition.
Samsung Display is scheduled to begin manufacturing OLED panels for the series this month. While the overall production timeline aligns with the company’s traditional launch cycles, the introduction of the Pro tier has substantially increased internal shipment forecasts.
Production numbers rise
The display division aims to produce between 47mn and 48mn OLED panels for the S27 series over its lifespan, representing a 10% volume increase compared with the early 40 million target set for this year’s Galaxy S26.
Industry insiders indicate that Samsung Display expects to ship up to 3mn OLED panels specifically for the new Pro model by the end of this year, followed by an additional 5mn units next year.
Despite the expanded hardware portfolio generating higher component volumes, suppliers face potential profitability challenges. Manufacturers are increasingly relying on reused part designs across generational upgrades, a strategy that helps control production costs but often compresses profit margins for external component partners.
