Samsung One UI 9 rolls out worldwide: new features and how to update

Samsung has broadened the global rollout of its One UI 9, delivering enhanced artificial intelligence tools, improved privacy controls and interface upgrades to a wider range of Galaxy smartphones.
The update initially debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8. It began reaching the Galaxy S26 series on September 16 and is now available for users across multiple regions including South Korea, the United States, Europe, India and Canada.
Samsung is deploying the software in stages based on country, mobile operator and specific device model. The company has also initiated the stable rollout for the Galaxy S25 series, including the S25 Ultra and S25 FE, as well as last year’s foldable lineup.
One UI 9 heavily emphasises Galaxy AI features that are designed to streamline daily tasks. A new tool called Now Nudge provides contextual suggestions based on current screen activity. It can detect information in messages and propose actions like adding a calendar event or saving a location to Maps without forcing the user to switch applications.
New video editing tools and privacy controls
For video creators, My FanCam uses artificial intelligence to automatically track a selected person within an existing recording. This allows users to transform wide-angle footage into a focused clip without manually cropping every frame.
To use it, open Gallery, select a video and tap the Galaxy AI icon. When the available subjects appear, select the person the software should track.
Photo Assist has also received a significant upgrade and now supports voice commands. Users can verbally describe their desired edits rather than typing instructions, and the system can display the original and altered images side by side for direct comparison. Additionally, Now Brief offers personalised daily summaries based on individual schedules, providing quick shortcuts to relevant applications.
The software introduces several new security measures. AI Privacy Alerts monitor and flag potentially excessive access to sensitive information such as precise location data. A new AI Assistant Activity dashboard lets users review the actions AI tools performed, showing exactly which applications they accessed and when.
Connectivity and availability
Samsung Internet now features machine learning warnings for malicious websites, while foldable devices gain improved multitasking capabilities such as three-way split-screen layouts.
The update is currently available for the Galaxy S26 and S25 generations alongside recent Z Fold and Z Flip models. Samsung plans to expand the release to older devices, including the Galaxy S24, S23 and select A-series phones. Users can check for availability in their device settings, though advanced functions like My FanCam rely on specific hardware capabilities and regional language support.
Users can check for the One UI 9 update by following these steps:
- Open Settings on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
- Select Software update.
- Tap Download and install or Check for updates, depending on the device.
- Follow the instructions if One UI 9 is available.
