New free MaPC app lets Mac users play Windows games from Steam and Epic

A new application called MaPC has entered public beta, allowing Mac users to install and play Windows games from Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG without manually configuring compatibility software.

Developed by Steale LLC, the free utility brings games from all three storefronts into a single library, where users can download, launch and manage them through a macOS interface.

MaPC uses Wine, a compatibility layer that allows Windows applications to run on other operating systems, alongside graphics translation technologies DXVK and MoltenVK.

The software automatically configures the necessary components and selects graphics settings for individual games.

The application supports titles using DirectX 9, 10 and 11, while DirectX 12 compatibility remains experimental and requires users to install Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit separately.

Players can also adjust graphics settings, enable MetalFX upscaling and configure ray tracing where supported. However, not every Windows game will run correctly.

Which Macs support MaPC and how much does it cost?

MaPC is available for Macs powered by Apple Silicon processors, starting with the M1, running macOS 15 or later. Intel-based Macs are not supported.

The software requires Rosetta 2, which it can install during setup, and approximately 30GB of available storage for the gaming engine and installed titles.

The basic application is free, including access to supported storefronts, game installation, updates and compatibility fixes.

An optional paid version starts at $4.99 as a one-time purchase and adds features such as:

  • Save backups to iCloud Drive or local folders
  • Gameplay statistics and performance monitoring
  • Full-resolution Retina rendering
  • Siri and Shortcuts integration
  • Game shortcuts and a menu bar launcher

More expensive supporter tiers are available for $14.99 and $29.99, although they do not provide additional gaming compatibility features.

MaPC remains in beta, and its developers warn that some games may require further optimisation or fail to launch entirely.

Titles relying on kernel-level anti-cheat systems, including Valorant and certain multiplayer games, remain incompatible. Support for Ubisoft Connect and the EA app is also under development.

The application is available to download from the official MaPC website. Independent performance testing remains limited, so its reliability across different Mac models and game libraries has yet to be established.
