Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unharmed after gunmen opened fire on his car in Mumbai on Sunday, October 18, injuring two people and triggering a police investigation into possible organised crime involvement.

The 36-year-old actor was leaving a football match near Pushpa Park in the Juhu neighbourhood at around 7 p.m. when attackers approached his vehicle and fired several shots at close range, according to the BBC.

Video footage circulating on social media appears to show two gunmen shooting towards the front passenger seat of Shroff’s slowly moving car before escaping on a motorcycle with a third accomplice.

Shroff sustained no gunshot injuries, but his driver and another motorist were injured. Both received medical treatment, according to Mumbai police.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff following the attack and said the actor and his mother had been shaken by the incident.

«These attempts to intimidate people will not be tolerated, and we will put an end to this hooliganism,» Shinde said, according to the BBC.

Police investigate possible gang involvement

Mumbai police have launched a search for the attackers, deploying multiple investigative teams and examining CCTV footage from the area.

A social media message attributed to members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting. The message reportedly named Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu and suggested the attack was connected to Shroff’s association with fellow Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

However, police have not verified the authenticity of the claim or established the gang’s involvement.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has previously been linked to threats and attacks involving prominent Indian public figures, including a shooting outside Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in April 2024.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about celebrity security in Mumbai.

Opposition Congress politician Sachin Sawant criticised Maharashtra’s government, citing previous attacks and threats involving film industry figures as evidence of deteriorating public safety.

State officials have pledged to identify and prosecute those responsible.

Shroff later returned to his residence under police protection, according to The Indian Express.

Police have not publicly established a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
