Marvel’s VisionQuest has revisited Tony Stark‘s death in Avengers: Endgame, revealing that his artificial intelligence assistant F.R.I.D.A.Y. tried unsuccessfully to save him after his sacrifice.

The revelation appears in the third episode of the Disney+ series, released on October 20, and adds previously unseen details to one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s most significant moments, according to Polygon.

In Avengers: Endgame (2019), Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., used the Infinity Stones to defeat Thanos and his army. The energy released by the Stones fatally injured him, and he died surrounded by his fellow Avengers.

The film showed Stark’s final moments but did not explore what happened from the perspective of F.R.I.D.A.Y., the AI system that operated his Iron Man armour.

In the episode, titled Reboot, F.R.I.D.A.Y., portrayed by Orla Brady, discusses Stark’s death with another AI assistant, E.D.I.T.H., played by Emily Hampshire.

During the conversation, F.R.I.D.A.Y. recalls her unsuccessful attempt to save her creator and expresses remorse over her inability to prevent his death.

The exchange takes place as Vision‘s surviving AI companions mourn J.A.R.V.I.S., who sacrificed himself in the previous episode to keep Vision alive.

F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s account adds another perspective to Stark’s final moments, showing that his technology was unable to protect him from the consequences of using the Infinity Stones.

The scene also connects the experiences of Stark’s former assistants to the series’ exploration of artificial intelligence, mortality and grief.

VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany as Vision and James Spader as Ultron. The eight-episode series follows the reconstructed Avenger as he attempts to recover his identity after the events of WandaVision.
