Attack on Titan 3 retells entire anime with new hero and tougher Titan battles

Attack on Titan 3 will allow players to experience the anime’s complete storyline through an original character, with redesigned combat, more challenging enemies and a new relationship system, developer Omega Force has revealed.
Producer Hideo Suzuki shared further details about the upcoming action game in an interview with IGN following a hands-on preview.
Unlike a conventional sequel, the third instalment will revisit the events of the original anime from beginning to end, including storylines covered in previous games.
Suzuki explained that the developers initially considered adapting only the later seasons but decided the remaining material would not provide enough content for a full game.
Instead, players will create their own soldier, whose journey runs alongside established characters such as Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert.
The protagonist begins as an experienced squad leader but suffers severe psychological trauma after losing their entire unit during a mission. Unable to return to active combat, the character becomes an instructor responsible for training new recruits.
Their role gradually changes as they regain confidence and return to the battlefield alongside their former students.
Attack on Titan 3 brings tougher Titans and redesigned combat
Omega Force has overhauled the game’s omni-directional mobility (ODM) gear, giving players greater control over movement and attacks.
The updated system allows soldiers to attach themselves to buildings and trees, adjust their altitude more precisely and slide beneath obstacles.
Suzuki said the changes were designed to give experienced players more opportunities to develop advanced combat techniques.
The developers have also improved Titan behaviour and attack patterns to prevent the upgraded movement system from making battles too easy.
IGN’s preview highlighted a confrontation with the War Hammer Titan, where players must weaken the enemy by filling a Break Gauge before delivering a decisive attack.
Combat also incorporates a new Buddy Arts system, which allows players to perform special moves alongside other characters.
These abilities are linked to the game’s friendship mechanics. Players can strengthen relationships with established characters through conversations, shared meals and gifts, improving their effectiveness during missions.
Suzuki also confirmed that the game includes original side stories developed in collaboration with manga publisher Kodansha.
Animation studio MAPPA, which worked on the final season of the anime, is producing the game’s opening cinematic.
Attack on Titan 3 is scheduled for release on 10 December 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. The game will feature Japanese voice acting with subtitles in several languages, including English.
