According to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Chinese authorities, through intermediaries, sent a proposal to President Donald Trump’s administration to organise a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This initiative was received with scepticism by both the U.S. and Europe, largely due to the close ties between Russia and China. China also does not intend to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the meeting between the American and Russian presidents. The WSJ noted that this contradicts Western countries’ principle of including Kyiv in the negotiation process.
