Grand Mir Hotel in Tashkent Set for Demolition

The Grand Mir Hotel in Tashkent, formerly known as Hotel Rossiya, is set to be demolished, Kursiv Uzbekistan has confirmed with staff at the hotel.

Although the exact demolition date has not yet been finalised, the hotel remains open for business, according to a hotel employee.

According to Podrobno.uz, the demolition is planned for September, as reported by Shavkat Abdullayev, a representative of the architecture firm Design Factory. The company is part of Sarikoc Holding, which also owns Koç Construction, the company behind major developments in the capital including the Hilton Hotel and Congress Hall in Tashkent City and AKFA University.

Abdullayev revealed that a business centre and several new buildings are planned to replace the existing structure. The full redevelopment is expected to take up to three years.

Originally built during the Soviet era and later renovated and rebranded, the Grand Mir Hotel has long been a prominent feature of central Tashkent. It has hosted international guests, conferences and high-level events, making it a significant part of the city’s hospitality landscape. Its location and historical identity have made it a familiar landmark for locals and travellers alike.
