Bruce Willis’s wife Emma Heming Willis has said she made the «hardest decision» to move the actor out of their family home as his dementia progresses.
Willis, 70, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023. The illness affects behaviour and language and becomes worse over time.
Emma, 47, explained the move was to protect their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.
«Bruce would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs,» she told ABC News.
The Die Hard star now lives in a one-storey house with a full-time care team. His wife said she and the children visit daily.
«When we go over, either we’re outside, or we’re watching a movie. It’s just really about being able to be there and connect with Bruce,» she said.
Emma added that Willis is «still very mobile» and in good health physically, but «it’s just his brain that is failing him.» She admitted his language abilities are «going» but said the family has learned to adapt.
The family, including Willis’s ex-wife Demi Moore and their three daughters, have described FTD as a «cruel disease» with no cure.
