American rapper Nicki Minaj has publicly thanked the US President for drawing attention to the worsening security situation facing Christian communities in Nigeria. Her remarks were shared in a statement released by the White House.
«I would like to thank @POTUS for prioritising this issue and for his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria,» the post caption said.
Minaj, whose full name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter of Trinidadian origin. She became globally known in the early 2010s thanks to her striking image, forceful delivery and chart hits including Super Bass, Starships and Anaconda. She remains one of the most influential women in hip hop.
Her comments follow reports of a series of violent attacks on communities in northwestern Nigeria, where armed groups have targeted villages, churches and schools. In one widely reported incident, dozens of worshippers were abducted during a church service and held for ransom. Local pastors and residents say Christian communities have suffered repeated kidnappings and killings, although many experts stress that the wider insecurity affects people of all faiths.
