Kevin Costner Eyes Role as Bill Clinton in UN-Backed Political Drama

Kevin Costner is in talks to play former US President Bill Clinton in the political drama series United, sources have confirmed, Variety reports. The project, still in early development, is being produced in association with the United Nations, with Costner also serving as executive producer alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

The series will be written and directed by Night Hunter filmmaker David Raymond and will showcase true stories of humanitarians displaying courage and perseverance in efforts to improve the world. Production companies involved include Appian Way, Onwards Studios, and Prime Focus DNEG, with Fifth Season handling distribution. Raymond has previously collaborated with the UN’s Creative Community Outreach Initiative, hosting an industry dinner for the organisation in 2016.

Costner recently directed, co-wrote, produced, and starred in Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, the first instalment of his four-part frontier epic. Chapter 1 premiered at Cannes in 2024 before a theatrical release in June. Chapter 2 debuted at Venice last year and is awaiting a release date.

The Oscar-winning actor is also known for starring in Taylor Sheridan’s contemporary Western series Yellowstone, which ran for five seasons on Paramount Networks until 2024. Costner won a Golden Globe for his role as Montana rancher John Dutton, leaving the show partway through Season 5.

Upcoming projects for Costner include Honeymoon with Harry, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 3, and Headhunters. He is represented by WME and Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro.
