Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny used his first televised acceptance speech at the 2026 Grammy Awards to deliver a sharp rebuke of U.S. immigration authorities, declaring «ICE out» in protest against federal enforcement actions.
After winning best music urbana album for Debí Tirar Más Fotos, the artist told the audience:
«We’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.»
Often dubbed the King of Trap, Bad Bunny said love was stronger than hate and urged people to respond to cruelty with compassion, stressing the importance of family and community.
Previous actions
Bad Bunny has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and has faced backlash from conservative figures, including criticism linked to his role as the 2026 Super Bowl halftime performer. He recently skipped touring in the continental United States, saying he feared federal agents might target his fans.
Immigration issues dominated much of the evening, with protests reported in Minneapolis and student walkouts across the country demanding the removal of federal immigration agents from Minnesota following the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens.
Other artists
Several other artists at the ceremony voiced similar messages. Billie Eilish wore an «ICE out» pin and used her best song of the year acceptance speech for Wildflower to criticise U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying:
«No one is illegal on stolen land,» before adding a blunt condemnation of the agency.
Songwriter Amy Allen, who has worked with artists including Sabrina Carpenter and Harry Styles, also wore an «ICE out» pin, calling the message essential given what she described as deeply troubling developments in the country.
