The UK government is facing mounting pressure to block Kanye West from entering the country ahead of his planned headline performance at London’s Wireless Festival in July.

The rapper, now known as Ye, has drawn repeated criticism for antisemitic remarks and past praise of Nazism. His booking has sparked political backlash, with the opposition Conservative Party urging Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to deny him entry.

A Home Office source said ministers are reviewing his case, although the department typically does not comment on individual immigration decisions.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the decision to book West as «deeply concerning,» stressing that antisemitism must be firmly confronted. London mayor Sadiq Khan also said the rapper’s comments do not reflect the city’s values.

The controversy has already had commercial consequences, with major sponsors, including drinks companies and payment firms, pulling support from the festival.

Organisers, including Festival Republic, defended the decision, with managing director Melvin Benn arguing that West has a legal right to perform and calling for «forgiveness» despite his «abhorrent» past remarks. He added that the artist would not be given a platform to promote controversial views during the event.

West has previously faced international restrictions, including a visa ban in Australia last year following the release of a song promoting Nazism.

The debate highlights ongoing tensions between artistic freedom and public accountability, as well as broader concerns about hate speech and public safety in the UK.
