The Swedes played pragmatically, and a brace from Viktor Gyokeres became the key factor.

Sweden punished mistakes

At first, Ukraine controlled possession but lacked sharpness. At the same time, Sweden relied on counterattacks. As a result, the first goal came quickly. Gyokeres finished a cross from the flank and put his team ahead.

Then the Ukrainians tried to respond through the wings. However, crosses did not bring results. Moreover, the Swedes acted confidently in defense and did not allow space.

Gyökeres extended the lead

After the break, Ukraine pushed forward more actively. However, they immediately conceded a second goal. Gyokeres broke through the center and struck accurately into the corner.

Later, the situation worsened. After a defensive mistake, a penalty was awarded. The Sweden forward converted the chance and completed his brace.

Ukraine tried to return to the game. However, chances were either blocked or did not result in a shot.

Ponomarenko scored on debut

Toward the end, Ukraine managed to reduce the deficit. After a cross from Viktor Tsyhankov, Ponomarenko scored. The young forward headed the ball under the crossbar.

Nevertheless, this did not affect the final outcome. Sweden confidently saw the match through to victory. The Swedes will play in the World Cup 2026 qualifying playoff final.
