South Korean entertainment powerhouse YG Entertainment will debut a brand new boy group this September. The act will feature five members and marks the agency’s first new male band in six years.
Yang Hyun-suk, the founder and executive producer of YG, confirmed the news in a video statement released on the company’s official blog on Thursday. While addressing the long-standing speculation surrounding the agency’s autumn plans, he stated:
«We’re planning to introduce the male group in September for now. The number of its members, which many people may be curious about, is five.»
Yang kept further specifics firmly under wraps and opted not to reveal the group’s official name or the identities of the five performers.
Expanding the label’s lineup
This upcoming September launch will be YG’s first boy band since Treasure debuted back in August 2020.
The agency’s founder also used the video broadcast to tease further developments. Yang explained that YG will steadily release information concerning its upcoming intellectual properties and other rookie acts. This wider strategy includes plans for a new girl group that is currently operating under the provisional name Next Monster.
Alongside launching fresh talent, the company has an extensive slate of major projects planned for the rest of the year.
Fans can expect a wave of new music from the label’s current roster, featuring upcoming albums from both Babymonster and Treasure. Furthermore, legendary K-pop veterans BigBang will embark on a global tour to celebrate their milestone 20th anniversary.
