Tom Hardy parted ways with the hit Paramount+ crime drama Mobland, Variety reports.

Sources have confirmed that the British actor will not be returning for the show’s third series. Production for series two recently wrapped in March but reports indicate that Hardy was not invited back for future episodes due to on-set friction. The alleged clashes reportedly involved executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios and various other members of the production team.

While representatives for Hardy, Butterworth, Paramount and 101 Studios have yet to publicly comment on the matter, the news was originally brought to light by the media outlet Puck.

Writing out Harry Da Souza

Although Paramount+ has not formally greenlit a third series yet, the show’s massive success makes a renewal almost inevitable. Mobland launched last spring and swiftly climbed the ranks to become the second most-watched programme on the streaming service.

Hardy portrayed the enigmatic fixer Harry Da Souza. With his sudden exit, it remains unclear how writers will naturally remove his character from the ongoing narrative.

The crime saga, created by Ronan Bennett, boasts a stellar ensemble cast. The central plot revolves around the notorious Harrigan family, featuring Pierce Brosnan as patriarch Conrad, Helen Mirren as his wife Maeve, Paddy Considine as their son Kevin.

Butterworth notably co-wrote all ten episodes of the drama alongside Bennett.

A history of workplace tension

This is not the first time Hardy has faced allegations of difficult workplace behaviour. He famously clashed with his co-star Charlize Theron during the production of the post-apocalyptic blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road.

Director George Miller previously revealed that the actor often had to be «coaxed out of his trailer» to film scenes. Furthermore, Kyle Buchanan‘s book about the film’s chaotic production, Blood, Sweat and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, detailed accounts of Hardy displaying an «aggressive» demeanour on set.
