Pakistan confirmed its readiness to collaborate with Uzbekistan on a new short film exploring the life of the renowned statesman and military commander Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur.
The announcement was made by Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. He confirmed that the cinematic project will chronicle the historical figure’s early journey and his enduring regional influence.
Chronicling a historical legacy
«The film will tell about Babur’s childhood, his arrival in this region and the foundation of his own empire,» the Pakistani minister highlighted.
To set the project in motion, cultural representatives from both Tashkent and Islamabad are scheduled to hold a virtual meeting in the near future. This upcoming dialogue aims to finalise the preliminary stages of joint production and align the creative visions of both nations.
The collaborative effort was formally discussed on June 8 during a diplomatic meeting between Tarar and the Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev. Alongside the historical drama, the two nations are also developing a separate documentary that will capture the recent mutual state visits between Pakistani and Uzbek leaders.
Deepening cultural ties
According to the media outlet The Print, the legacy of the Mughal Empire’s founder remains highly celebrated across the region. Pakistan already hosts the active Babur Forum while both countries frequently engage in joint initiatives dedicated to preserving his historical footprint.
This cinematic partnership serves as an extension of a series of recent diplomatic and cultural exchanges. During a state visit to Islamabad by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in February of this year, Pakistani officials chose to honour the historical commander by naming a prominent street and a public park in the capital after him.
